Kayla

Caring for Kayla is an initiative that was started by Kerry, mom to Kayla.

This was her feedback on their Facebook page during August 2022:

Her doctors have advised against the 2 big surgeries for her collapsed left bronchial tube and her collapsed trachea. They have extensively consulted with other medical teams over Kayla’s case and they all agree the risks are too high and the surgeries won’t make that much of a difference because her case is so complex. 

Due to the complexity, Kayla is an unlikely candidate for lung transplants in the future. (it would be like putting new tyres on a car that’s about to break down). New lungs need to go to patients that can most benefit. So our only way forward is to get her the medication.

Kayla is SO excited to be going home and eventually joining her school friends again. We can’t keep her in a bubble until she gets her miracle meds. 

So now the clock is seriously against her. We will be doing damage control and living in and out of hospital until then.

Update 19 January 2023:

They were able to collect sufficient funding for Trixacar but still needs funding and someone who will be willing to collect medication on her behalf because Kayla’s mom is a single parent and have to take care of Kayla in hospital as well as her younger brother at home.

Breathtaking Fundraising NPC would love to train and send a volunteer to collect the medication for Kayla asap.
